Penny Appeal has been to Gambia to meet the children supported by OrphanKind. Our Partnerships Manager, Ridwana Wallace-Laher, visited a number of orphanages where she met children, as young as five, who had been living on the streets and vulnerable to disease and exploitation.
“I am blessed to see the difference we are making to the lives of these kids, speaking as a mother myself, I cannot thank our donors and supporters enough for their support”, said Ridwana.

These children are now living in a safe place and have the chance of an education at one of the best schools in Gambia.

During her four-day visit, Ridwana also checked on the progress of a new orphan complex that is due to open later this year. It will include ten new orphan homes, a play area and a garden.

She also met with the team who run Thirst Relief, which provides villages with reliable access to clean water. The building of the well means the women and children no longer have to walk for hours to fetch water that was unclean.
